Those of us who joined our group for a long week-end in Scranton had a wonderful time. As promised, the hotel architecture, a former train station, was stunning. We did just about everything our Mission describes – we started with the 1st of several classes that will part of our new program, the Home Comfort Specialist Academy. Ralph Adams delivered a workshop, How to Sell a Warm Air Furnace with Air Conditioning. Yes, believe it or not you can sell on price or, you can give your customer the option of choosing price over comfort. But you need to be in charge of that process. You, need the information so you are the expert. There are those that are gifted sales personnel and then there are those that people want to buy from because they are experts. Our goal is the help sales people become that.
After class guests had a meet and greet and Friday, we boarded the bus that took us to the treasurers of Scranton. We learned a great deal about our past. The Trolley Museum was interesting but the train ride along with an outstanding tour guide gave us a vision of how our past evolved into today. The Coal Mine tour gave us an eerie feeling of the job. Imagine letting your seven (7) year old go down into the mines with their older brother or dad only to come out 10-12 hours later. They didn't go there to hang out – they were responsible for various tasks that involved danger. Or imagine the lantern going out and finding your way in solid blackness. Why are there timbers in a coal mine? No not to hold up the ground or rocks, it was an early warning device. If you heard creaking you moved to the exit.
After our day of travel, we had a wonderful social event that evening – the food at the Radisson was outstanding.
Mike SanGiovanni, Editor for Indoor Comfort Marketing and his wife Suzanne attended the retreat and Mike kindly took a bunch of photos and created an album for your viewing. Click Here to View Album.
Saturday morning we had our board meeting and in the afternoon, Dan Holohan did a workshop, "How to Improve your Presentations". The session was so well received that we'll be doing three of these in 2013. So stay tuned for dates and locations.
Following a busy day we had a closing dinner. If you haven't attended one of these events; maybe next year? We are exploring Long Island and...
