Dave Nelsen Scholarship
Our Mission is Education, thus OESP supports students both young and mature who wish to continue their education. In 2011 we changed our program and between OESP and our industry friends, we awarded 6 $5000.00 scholarships. The six co-sponsors of the awards – Delavan, Honeywell, Weil-McLain, R.E. Michel, Taco and the Mid-Atlantic Chapter supporting the James McComas Award each contributed $2500.00 and OESP matched that amount.
In 2012 we will have a minimum of four (4) $5000.00 Awards and the process for winning a scholarship has been modified. To be considered a candidate, a student is required to write a 500 word essay and complete a form. Additionally we require a letter of recommendation from a respected authority – instructor, guidance councilor, employer or clergy for example. Proof of academic success is always appreciated. The resume and back-up materials need to be submitted to the National Office by March 1, 2012.
Our panel of judges is lead by National V.P., Al Breda. His committee includes Don Kurz, who was Dave Nelsen's employer and friend, Art Nelsen, Dave's brother, Angel Gonzalez, National V.P., Rick Taylor, Williamsport Technical College and member of the Susquehanna Valley Chapter and Bob O'Rourke, Westchester Chapter.
All recipients of awards and their families are invited to be our guest at our annual Awards Banquet which is held during our convention and trade show.
Funds are raised thru our annual Dave Nelsen Scholarship Golf Tournament held during our convention.
