On October 3, 1998 the oilheating industry and NAOHSM lost a good friend and a leader in technical education, Dave Nelsen of Kurz Oil Co. At the time of his death, Dave was the new Education Chairman for NAOHSM. He was spearheading some major educational projects. As a tribute to Dave and to honor his memory, our then President Bob Boltz, announced the formation of the Dave Nelsen Scholarship.
To date, the fund has climbed to over $100,000 and 51 people shared more than $100,000.00. Knowing Dave’s belief in education, Past President Bob Boltz and Dan Holohan along with others decided to honor Dave with this annual scholarship. Many have contributed to the fund but one individual stands out for his commitment and that is Dan Holohan. Dan made it his personal goal to get this account to $100,000 so that funds would always be available to those wishing to further their education. Dan contributed by hosting seminars with the funds going to the Dave Nelsen Scholarship Fund.
Our panel of independent judges reviewed the applications and essays and the winners were announced. The 2007 winners winners were invited to attend our annual Awards Banquet held this year at the Hershey Lodge & Convention Center, Hershey, PA.
Funds are raised for this project through our annual golf tournament held during our convention. Special thanks to our hole sponsors and Peerless for providing the lunch and Thermo Pride for providing the prizes. Even with the heavy rain, we were able to raise over $6,000.00 towards scholarships.
