Robert Arnold - Lincoln, ME – Robert is a non-traditional student. He began his work history back in 1979 with Lincoln Pulp and Paper. After working for 25 years, the company closed its doors January 2004. This gave Robert an opportunity to build a new career and he chose to attend Northern Maine Community College, Presque Isle, ME where he is studying heating. Even though it’s been a challenge, Robert maintains a 3.98 GPA. Robert sums up this essay by saying that, “it was a bitter pill to swallow when I lost my job. I see now how positive the event really was for my family. The mill was sold and re-opened with plans for expansion. There was the opportunity for me to return to work. The tough choice, one of the best choices ever, was made to stay in school at a time when my two older children are also in college.” Robert will be graduating college at the same time his youngest child graduates high school.
Bryan Cole - Caribou, ME – Bryan is a senior at Northern Maine Community College. He attends class 2 days a week and works the other three for Ferris Oil. Bryan learned through education and experience that plumbers and heating technicians contribute to the comfort and safety of people. He’s learned that the skills he’s learned and developed will keep people warm in the winter and provide safe potable drinking water. Bryan has shared his goal of being the 1st in his family to complete college and also pay for everything himself. By working while attending college, he hopes to graduate with no debt.
Visar Djongalic - Yonkers, NY – Visar is a student at Saunders Technical School. As far as his future plans for schooling, he hasn’t yet made up his mind. Daniel Auciello, Jr - Holtsville, NY – Dan is in his sixth semester at SUNY Maritime College. Dan is the son of one of our members, Dan Auciello, member of the Nassau-Suffolk Chapter.
