2007 Dave Nelsen Scholarship Award Winners
9th Annual Awards



Three of our eight 2007 Scholarship Winners accepted our invitation to be our guest at our Awards Banquet. They included Frank Muller who is attending New England Institute of Technology, Matthew Robinson and Clayton Bretz both attending PA College of Technology, Williamsport, PA.



NAOHSM announced its 2007 Award Winners at their annual Convention & Trade Show. Each winner is awarded a $2000.00 scholarship and an opportunity to attend our annual Awards Banquet. This year, an additional scholarship was added, the Jack Sullivan Award sponsored by Taco. The winners include:

Brian Spagna – Yonkers, NY. Brian is a Sr at Saunders Trades & Technical School. Plans to attend Westchester Community College – he points out in his essay that HVAC is not just his major in school, but his hobby. He enjoys troubleshooting heating problems.

Jeffrey Normandy – E. Orleans, MA – student at Cape Cod Regional Technical School and plans to attend Cape Cod Community College. Has been working for Atlantic Plumbing & Heating Company for 3 years and holds a 3.49 gpa

Javier Rivera – Chicopee, MA – Currently attends Porter & Chester Institute. Javier has the attitude to become a good technician. He is married and has a young child. He and his wife worked and attended community college and shared responsibility of child rearing. After working four years in a restaurant, he decided to get the training in our industry. In his resume Javier mentions that he regularly worked 40-50 hours a week and only missed work to see his daughter being born.

Frank Muller – Pawcatuck, CT – plans to attend the New England Institute of Technology. Frank is one of our non-traditional students. He previously worked as a machinist for a manufacturing company. (Jack Sullivan Award)

Adam Cooksley – Old Lyme, CT – Adam is currently attending school at New England Institute of Technology, Warwick, RI. Adam is another non traditional student that worked 28 years for a fortune 500 company. After experiencing several layoffs due to cancelled contracts, he realized that he needed to find a secure field. He enrolled in the RACH (Refrigeration, AC and Htg) program with the intention of going into the refrigeration field. But after taking the heating course he decided to concentrate in this field and finds it exciting.

Matthew Robinson, Williamsport, PA – currently attending the PA College of Technology. Matthew maintains a 4.0 GPA and believes in hard work and dedication. Matthew shares with us that his schooling has been disrupted twice for a greater cause and that has been two deployments to Bosnia and Iraq as an infantryman. He states that these experiences have provide him with responsibility, determination and transferable skills that will be valuable in the Oilheating industry.

Clayton Bretz, New Bloomfield, PA –. He is graduating from Cumberland Perry Vocation School. Clayton believes that his vocational tech schooling has given him an excellent base and looks forward to continuing his education at PA College of Technology in Williamsport, PA. Clayton recognizes that there will be many changes occurring in the Oilheating industry. He states in his essay that technicians will need to troubleshoot from their laptop and need to be prepared for changing technology. (Delavan Award)

Brandon Evans, Chiciago, IL – plans to attend ETI (Environmental Technical Institute) – Brandon wants to pursue a career in HVAC and promises NAOHSM that if we invest in him he’ll succeed in this field.
