Issue 163 - NORA Needs Your Action

Fighting for the Future of Oilheat
NORA gives our industry the funds to fight for our future. It is as simple as that. We have just learned that a vehicle exists to get NORA restored right now. The Senate will be considering a bill in the next few days to extend a variety of programs, tax credits etc. that expired while it was occupied with other matters. It is a big bill, and it is essential that we are included in it.

This will not happen by itself. But you absolutely can influence the outcome here, and it wont cost you a cent.

You are in a state where one or more Senators is a critical target. We each need to pick up the phone or email (or both) and make our wishes known to them. Better yet, circulate this same message to all your employees and have them do it too. Because their future depends on keeping more homes with oil just as yours does. This moment will not come back again. And our competitors in the natural gas and other energy sectors would love it if we did nothing. Or put it off. Or believe that others will do it for us. Heres how to reach your Senators:

1. Go to: www.capwiz.com/pmaa/dbq/officials
2. Enter your zip code and click Go
3. Click on email under the picture of your Senators.
4. Choose compose your own letter (this is because the language in S.1672 regarding NORA extension is not current)
5. Paste the message below into your email to your Senator. Remember, the eloquence of your message doesnt matter as much as simply sending something in. These guys are mathematicians, not writers. They count calls and emails because they count votes.

To: Senator XXX, Senator XXX, I am writing you to urge your support of the one year extension of National Oilheat Research Alliance (NORA) which expired on February 6 this year. I urge you to push to have it included in the Senates tax extender legislation. I understand that the NORA extension language is being managed by Senators Reid, Shaheen and Snowe.

NORA has played a crucial role in helping our company and customers embrace greater fuel efficiency. It is leading the effort to improve the cleanliness of our fuel. It has also provided training for our employees that have increased their skills and allowed them to maintain well paying jobs. Our industry is filled with small businesses like mine that are the backbone of this country and the local economy. We have no way to attack these issues without a common, equitable source of funding, that does not expand the federal deficit by one penny, and in fact saves customers money.

My employees and I look forward to hearing what you are able to accomplish with this. I know it is not the most important issue facing the country, but it would make a huge difference to us, and also help our efforts to build a clean, safe, efficient energy future.

Sincerely, XXX
